A Message From the Founders

Scott Bedson, PT and Ken Schlinger, PT owners of ProFitness Physical Therapy, became life long friends after working together at New York Presbyterian Hospital and followed their passion for improving lives by opening ProFitness Physical Therapy on the Upper East Side in 1986.

  • At that time, the medical profession was becoming “business by the numbers.” Treating too many patients in too little time was becoming the norm, and New Yorkers were noticing.
  • Patients with almost every physical condition or injury were becoming invisible for lack of personal, individual care.

We knew that people whether young or old, weekend warriors or sports enthusiasts, needed our attention and expertise, just as much as we wanted to improve their quality of life. We grew on the principle of individual, quality care, which enabled us to open our second facility at 50 Court Street in Brooklyn Heights shortly after.

Compromise and willingness to listen openly to each other has been central to our successful practice over the decades. Respect for each other and each other’s beliefs has facilitated our long friendship, and that too plays a role in our successful business. Celebrating our milestone anniversary gave us a chance to pause and celebrate how far we have come together, as well as the brand we created in 1986.

Helping people is at the root of what we do day to day. However, it is also rewarding to create something bigger than the two of us, the ProFitness Physical Therapy brand. This brand now represents quality healthcare in a world where quality keeps getting squandered for the bottom line. Keeping this focus for 33 years means a lot to both of us!

Over the years we:

  • changed with the technology
  • updated our equipment
  • networked with major New York City hospitals and physicians but never compromised our original objective – our patient-focused philosophy. ONE patient at a time. Every time!

You are NOT alone! We have treated thousands of patients with: back pain, joint replacements, back surgery, sports injuries, neck and shoulder pain, vertigo, COPD, emphysema and heart conditions, including heart attacks and bypass surgery.

As we continue to grow, we want to thank our referring physicians, most of who are top New York City Surgeons and Internists, and especially our patients who consistently refer their family and friends to us.

We value your confidence and appreciate your trust!
